Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood called on June 17 for an 18-month temporary "fix" of the Highway Trust Fund so that a new transportation bill could be developed in a less hurried manner. Both Chairman Oberstar and Ranking Minority Member John Mica stated that this delay would be unacceptable.
